Cincinnati Area Staycation Ideas

If you’re getting stir crazy spending time at home, there are still ways to make it FEEL like you’re traveling and exploring a new destination without going too far!

Depending on budget, there’s several great options in the N. Kentucky / Cincinnati area. My first suggestion is to get a hotel! This is the easiest way to make it feel like you’re away from home and your usual routine.

Get a Unique AirBNB or VRBO Rental Property!

  • The Swing HouseA fun and unique lodging idea, this art installation slash rental property is also open for free public tours, every second Saturday from 12-4 pm.

  • Elk Creek Winery – About one hour outside of the city, this could make a great day trip option or serve as a getaway for a long weekend.
  • Carriage HouseA rental set in, you guessed it- an old carriage house from the late 1800’s, this is located in the heart of Covington, Kentucky. It is within walking distance to downtown Cincinnati and many other fun activities.

  • House Boat  – If you really want something different, try staying on a houseboat for a night or two! Located in the Manhattan Marina near the “Newport on the Levee” complex, you’re still close to all the action.
  • Hopewell Croft Cabin – About 1.5 hours outside of the city is this rural getaway. Stay here and enjoy true quiet and isolation! It’s also nearby to several Amish shops and stores, and has plenty to do if you want to reconnect with nature.

Get “away from it all” in Adam’s County
  • Urban Farm CampingStay in a vintage camper from the 1970’s, and still be within walking distance to the popular Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Get an outdoorsy experience, yet still be close to the city!

Things to Do in the Downtown Area:

  • Visit one of the many lakes with beaches within an hour radius of the city if you’re looking to cool off!

  • Get in touch with nature on a hike! Head north to Hocking Hills, or south to Red River Gorge. Both have some epic scenery and hiking. Locally, check out Bender Mountain Trail or Mount Airy Forest area
