We were always trying to find that one local place that could come close to the delicious foods we have had on our travels in South America.  After several years, this is the list we came up with! Here are our own opinions of…

Traveling in Style: When to Treat Yourself!

For many travelers across the world, budget travel is the holy grail of adventure. There’s nothing like striking out somewhere new and feeling like you’re exploring the place from the ground up. Who wants to simply visit a succession of five-star hotels that are all the same, where you could be anywhere in the world, right!? It sort of defeats the point of traveling in the first place. However, on the flip side, it’s alright…

I was looking through photos from my 3 weeks in southeast Asia 🌍 and even though most of them aren't "Instagram style", it was still an amazing travel experience, and I decided "too bad I'm gonna share a few anyways"! 💁‍♀️ My husband had a DSLR camera even back then, so thankfully we have a lot of great high quality photos from that trip! 📸

((PS If you're wondering about my strange choice of fashion, 🤪 I was wearing a sleeveless sundress, but to visit this sacred site in Bali I had to put a sarong on to cover my legs, and a little shawl to cover my arms 🙏))

Anyone else have tons of photos from travels, but before the days of social media? 👇

🇨🇴 Happy (belated) birthday to my husband Jo 🇨🇴 Happy (belated) birthday to my husband John! 💍 Travel was one of the first things we bonded over when we met at a college party in Lexington, and I've loved all our adventures over the years 🌏

This was taken right after we got engaged! Before we got engaged, we'd been dating for over 4 years. I had casually mentioned several times all my criteria for my dream proposal, and he made it happen 🥰

I told him:

💙1) It needs to be a cool, memorable location- preferably in another country! ✈️

💙2) You need to talk to my Dad first and get his blessing to propose 😃

💙3) I would love a surprise engagement party afterwards 🎉 (he actually did surprise me with me one after we flew back home)

💙4) You better get down on one knee or I'm saying no 😜

Here's the proposal story, if you wanna know: 👇🏼

🧳 We were on a two week backpacking trip through Colombia. Near the last day of the trip, we rode horses on this insane humid jungle trail. 🐎 I was so sweaty and irritated that when we got to this beautiful beach an hour later, I was whining about getting in the water immediately. 🌴 John insisted I should wait until we took a photo first (because "my hair would look bad if I got it wet" 😂), and I conceded. He set up the tripod, and while I thought we were just taking a photo, he popped the question! 💍

Of course now we always joke about how bad of a mood I was in right before the proposal. That's life for you I guess! 😃
🇭🇷 SAVE if you plan to visit Dubrovnik (even 🇭🇷 SAVE if you plan to visit Dubrovnik (eventually)
...
This famous walled city is growing in popularity, and in the summer it can be insane crowded and hot. 🥵 Even though it's crowded, and every place jacked up their prices, is it still worth visiting? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Absolutely!!
...
What to do with 1-2 days in this UNESCO heritage city? 👇🏼
...
🌎 Walk the city walls for epic views
🌎 Explore the narrow streets and alleys, and walk the main "Stradun" for live music
🌎 Take the chairlift above the city for an incredible view!
🌎 Rent a kayak and explore the nearby caves, and swim in the salty Adriatic
🌎 Take a boat to Lokrum Island and see the peacocks 🦚
🌎 Take part in a historical walking tour (learning about the city during the war in the '90's is really interesting)
🌎 Relax on one of many nearby beaches!
...
Croatia is such a gem 💎. This country has loads to see. Outside of this particular city, it is really not crowded or "touristy". If you haven't been, get yourself there! 😎

🇺🇸 Your last five "non-face" emojis are appa 🇺🇸 Your last five "non-face" emojis are apparently your aesthetic. What's yours? 👇

I'm 💜🐻🎉🌍🌮, which I feel like accurately describes my life.

That's all I got today you guys. I'm running low on photos to recycle 😅, so enjoy a throwback of when I was young, tan, and 30 pounds lighter (ha. but seriously. Baby weight I hate you 🥺).
🇺🇲 What if I told you.... that I used the ap 🇺🇲 What if I told you.... that I used the app @picsart to plop an image of myself onto this photo I took a few years ago in Utah? 🤫 You wouldn't believe it because it looks so perfect and natural right??!

... Just kidding. 🤪 Definitely isn't my best photo editing work 😅 However, I was pretty impressed given it's a free app (and that I was able to do this in about 10 minutes)!

So, if you knew it was fake right away, how did you know? The shadows? Or, did I trick you with my skillZ 👇😬
🇦🇱 I may not have designer clothes or a new 🇦🇱 I may not have designer clothes or a new car, but I've been to Albania so 😅

(Caption inspired by @heleneinbetween ! 💜) What I mean is, when you prioritize travel, you sometimes have to make cuts in other areas so you can stay on budget. 💰

So yes, I have the same car I've been driving since I was 16. 🚗 The majority of my clothes are cheap. 👗 There are other things I could do with my money, but I choose to put it towards travel 🌍 (well, before the last year hah). (Also having a baby is pricy 😅) (also I need to stop going to restaurants 😅).

Do you all make any budget sacrifices so you are able to travel more often? 🧳
🇮🇹 When was the last time you were on a plan 🇮🇹 When was the last time you were on a plane?

For me, it was two days after I took this photo in July 2019. 😭 I've traveled a few places in the US since then, but all by car. I never thought I'd miss all the annoyances of air travel, but here we are 🤷‍♀️

Fun fact time: 🎉🎉 ~2,000 years after it was built, the Pantheon's interior dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. 🤓 I learned about it in my art history class in college, and it's really epic to see in person!
